✧Herbal Energetics & Traditional Uses

Wormwood is known for its bold bitterness—a flavor that signals deep action. Long revered in traditional herbal systems, it has been used to support the body's natural rhythms of clarity, cleansing, and digestion, particularly when the system feels sluggish or overwhelmed.

Its name, “wormwood,” reflects its age-old association with purifying rituals and bitter tonics crafted to support internal realignment and renewal. In traditional European herbalism, it was often used in seasonal transitions and to support digestive fire.

Energetically, wormwood is considered drying, cooling, and highly stimulating, making it a powerful ally when things feel stuck or clouded.

✧Magical & Energetic Properties

  • Wormwood carries the energy of the threshold—a herb of seers, dreamers, and protectors. It has long been associated with second sight, ancestral communication, and banishment of unwanted energies.
  • Used in smoke bundles and oils, it’s said to clear psychic residue and open the senses to liminal wisdom.
  • In folklore, wormwood was carried to ward off malevolent spirits and woven into rituals of protection and release.
  • Often linked to Artemis, the wild and untamed goddess of the hunt and moon, it speaks to sovereignty, fierce clarity, and vision.

✧Planetary Correspondence: Mars & Mercury

  • Mars gives wormwood its sharpness, heat, and purifying fire—a plant of action, severing, and protection. It’s used to cut through stagnation, ward off spiritual intrusions, and burn away what no longer serves.

  • Pluto also comes into play here for it's ability to transform

✧Zodiacal Correspondence: Aries & Scorpio (sometimes Virgo)

  • Aries connects through Mars: wormwood initiates, burns, and clears a path forward. It supports bold action and energetic realignment.

  • Some traditions also link wormwood to Virgo, due to its bitter, digestive qualities and purifying nature.
